September Outing will be held at the Owyhee River 09-22-2017 through 09-24-2017. Matt Perkins will be hosting this event, he will set up a camp at the campground at Owyhee Dam Park Friday afternoon and will be fishing the evening hatch. Saturday fishing will commence all day, and the group pot luck picnic will be held at the picnic area at Owyhee Dam Park just below the Dam at 4:30 PM (so we can finish up in time to fish the evening hatch!) BBQ meat will be provided (hot Dogs and Hamburgers), please bring a side dish to contribute to the Potluck.

There are A LOT of primitive places to camp along the river and plenty of space for trailers and/or tents etc. However, there is no full service camping, and there is a ban on all open fires as well as charcoal Briquettes, only gas bbq's are permitted.

Please register for this event so we know how much BBQ to provide.

Fishing is exceptional on the Owyhee, where the aquatic insects are diverse and the quantity is rich,  the river is known for it's  Blue Ribbon Brown Trout fishing and there are Rainbow trout as well. You can expect to catch Brown Trout in the 16-22" range (and sometimes even LARGER).

Dry Fly fishing is exceptional, Midge adult and emerger patterns sizes 18-22 prove successful (try serendipity, smoke jumpers, griffith's gnats etc) Mahogany Duns and Crane Flies are hatching this time of year as well as Caddis. Ant, Beetle, and Hopper patterns are productive too.

Streamer fishing is productive in the deeper pools and runs, Wooly Buggers, Zonkers, and Clouser Minnows are popular go to patterns.

Nymphing is also productive with a wide range of patterns from Zebra Midges, Pheasant Tails, and other bead head patterns.

Mouse Patterns fished close to the banks can illicit some aggressive surface action towards the end of the day into the evening, however night time fishing is NOT permitted on the Owyhee River.

Be sure to check with your local fly shops for recent reports.

Floating the river in float tubes or kickboat's is not recommended as this time of year or at these flows.

NOTE! AN OREGON FISHING LICENSE IS REQUIRED TO FISH THE OWYHEE RIVER, permits can be acquired at any of your local Fly shops (Angler's Orvis, Idaho Angler, Cabella's, and Three Rivers. If you FORGET to get your permit before heading out, there is a "last chance" to do so at Owyhee Grocery 2499 Oregon-201 Nyssa Oregon 97913 (check out their local fly selection while you are there)

For directions to the Owyhee River Google "Owyhee River Dam Park" and that will get you to the gathering place.
