The LaFontaine Touch of Magic

We will tie two flies from our book, LaFontaine’s Legacy. Gretchen will present the first, named the Ostrich Herl Twist Nymph. You’ll find it in the book starting on page 122. Al will demonstrate the second fly starting on page 110 called the Lady Heather Double Wing. On page 111, we featured a section written by Gary in which he explains where and when to offer each of the 12 different colors of the Double Wing pattern to the fish. It is a most insightful read.

Both patterns we’ll tie on Friday evening will feature a LaFontaine offering he called Double Magic in which he incorporated the magic of regular tying materials with Antron accented highlights. That technique was covered in detail in a chapter called A Theory of Attraction starting on page 195 of the book by Gary Lafontaine named The Dry Fly, New Angles. It’s now out of print but often available on the used book market on Amazon and other Internet sources.
