Steelhead Fishing - Clearwater River Hells Gate State Park
Date: October 15 - 19, 2025
If you're a steelhead fishing veteran or a newbie, the Clearwater River provides some terrific fall fishing. Bob Harder and Mark Aldridge are planning an outing for this iconic Idaho gamefish and will be our hosts at the Hells Gate State Park, in the Birch Loop Campground (sites 60 and 58) which provides RV spaces and tent camping. Lewiston is nearby and has lodging as well. Expect crowds so plan your accommodations soon!
Anticipate fall weather in Idaho that can range from sunny and 80F to blizzards and below freezing temps (just wait 15 minutes and it will change). Bring clothing to meet the weather demands.
There are many good steelhead guide services on the Clearwater and Snake rivers. Below are two guide service companies that club members have used in the past and a link to Clearwater River access points:

We are working to arrange a spey casting clinic either before the outing in Boise or up on the Clearwater. Let us know if you're interested. More details to come.
The drive from Boise to Lewiston is about 5 hours.
In addition to an Idaho fishing license, you will need a steelhead permit/card.
